Namecheap VPN, sold as FastVPN, is Namecheap’s budget entry into the VPN space.
Its parent company is better known for domains and web hosting.

That rebrand ties it to a service with a controversial past.
The server network spans over 1,000 servers in more than 50 locations.
You manage it from the same Namecheap account as your domains.

Основные преимущества виртуального щита
Here’s why Virtual Shield earns a spot on your shortlist:
- Three Tools in One: The VPN, antivirus, and identity monitoring share one account. You skip juggling separate subscriptions.
- Dark Web Alerts: It watches the dark web for your personal details. Real-time alerts and resolution help follow any breach.
- Malware Defense: Antivirus guards offline files and apps. Special servers block harmful sites and intrusive adware.
- Надежное шифрование: Traffic uses AES 256-bit encryption, with ChaCha20 and Poly1305 also listed. A kill switch cuts traffic if the VPN drops.
- Случайно сгенерированный идентификатор соединения: Each session gets a randomly generated connection ID, not your account ID. That adds an extra layer of separation.
- Torrent Friendly: Torrenting is allowed on mainstream P2P apps. Pair it with the kill switch for safer downloads.

Сравнение характеристик
Here’s how Namecheap VPN vs Virtual Shield plays out across ten key areas. Each section shows how both tools handle the same job.
| Особенность | Namecheap VPN | Виртуальный щит |

1. Серверная сеть
VPN от Namecheap: FastVPN runs over 1,000 servers in 50+ countries. That’s a moderate-sized network, and peak hours can bring crowding. Each server location still gives you a fresh IP address for accessing geo blocked content.
Виртуальный щит: Virtual Shield lists about 20 servers across 12 countries, and some reviews count only 11. That’s tiny next to other VPN providers. Travelers will find few server locations to choose from.
2. Шифрование и функции безопасности
VPN от Namecheap: FastVPN uses AES-256 and three VPN protocols: WireGuard, OpenVPN, and IKEv2. A kill switch blocks traffic if the VPN connection drops. Third-party tests found no DNS leaks in the Windows app. Your DNS requests stayed inside the tunnel.
Виртуальный щит: Virtual Shield pairs AES 256-bit encryption with a kill switch. OpenVPN is its main protocol, and OpenVPN (UDP) is the pick for speed. Special servers also block harmful websites and adware.
3. Privacy & Logging
VPN от Namecheap: FastVPN claims a strict no-logs policy. Yet reports say it collects basic connection logs, and FastVPN’s privacy policy draws criticism. US law can legally force companies to share data, so that worry isn’t just paranoia.
Виртуальный щит: Virtual Shield keeps no activity logs, so browsing history and IP addresses aren’t saved. It’s also US-based, inside the 5/9/14 Eyes alliances. Reviewers fault its unclear ownership and бизнес адрес.
⚠️ Предупреждение: Some users say Namecheap asked for ID during payment checks. A few had their account inexplicably frozen. Claims that FastVPN will secretly spy on you or is a complete scam lack proof. Still, we strongly advise a non-US VPN for sensitive work. ExpressVPN, based in the British Virgin Islands, is one option.
4. Antivirus & Malware Defense
VPN от Namecheap: FastVPN has no antivirus or malware scanner. It encrypts traffic but won’t catch a bad file you download. You’d need separate software for that job.
Виртуальный щит: Virtual Shield includes antivirus that checks offline files and apps. Ransomware protection is listed among its features too. For many buyers, this bundle is the main reason to pay more.
💡 Полезный совет: Already pay for antivirus? Then the bundle adds less value. Compare features before you double up.
Here’s how its ransomware shield works.
5. Identity Protection & Dark Web Monitoring
VPN от Namecheap: FastVPN offers no identity monitoring. It protects data in transit, not your personal records after a breach.
Виртуальный щит: Virtual Shield monitors your personal details across the dark web. You get real-time alerts and help resolving compromised data. In a crazy world of data leaks, that’s a real selling point.
Its identity tools also track wider personal records.
6. Streaming & Geo-Blocked Content
VPN от Namecheap: FastVPN has a streaming mode with servers for Netflix and Hulu. It reaches some regional Netflix libraries. Yet tests show it struggles with Hulu, Amazon Prime, and other streaming platforms.
Виртуальный щит: Virtual Shield says it can bypass blocks on Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. Full Netflix content access and heavy streaming media use may need the Unrestricted Streaming add-on. That adds a monthly cost.
⚠️ Предупреждение: Netflix blocking changes often. A server that plays BBC iPlayer today may fail tomorrow.
7. Скорость и производительность
VPN от Namecheap: FastVPN isn’t particularly fast. Download speeds dropped about 40% on the nearest server, worse than the typical drop. Distant servers slow down more, and torrent speeds have been reported as slow.
Виртуальный щит: Virtual Shield markets high speed servers and fast speeds. Speed tests put its U.S. servers under 50 Mbps at times. Other tests still rate it above average for such a small network.
💡 Полезный совет: Pick the closest server with either VPN. For online gaming, nearby servers keep latency low on both.
8. Devices & Ease of Use
VPN от Namecheap: FastVPN runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile devices, including its Android app and iOS. It also sets up on Android TV, Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, smart TVs, and gaming consoles. Unlimited connections cover all your devices, but reviews flag buggy FastVPN apps.
Виртуальный щит: Virtual Shield works across major platforms with an intuitive app. The macOS version feels basic, though. The basic plan caps your account’s simultaneous connections at three devices. The family plan raises that to 15.
Both apps reach a successful connection in one click. Keep the VPN connected on public Wi-Fi to protect your private data.
⚠️ Предупреждение: Virtual Shield has no split tunneling or dedicated IP. FastVPN also lacks many advanced features that premium VPNs include.
9. Support & Company
VPN от Namecheap: Namecheap’s support team is described as responsive but inexperienced with VPN issues. The same team handles domains and hosting, so some problems go unresolved. A few reviews describe a disastrous experience FastVPN support couldn’t fix.
The upside is one dashboard for your domains and VPN. The knowledge base also covers basic setup.
Виртуальный щит: Virtual Shield earns extra points for 24/7 live chat. Trustpilot reviewers call agents like Amanda and Pearl super helpful. Many say they felt like a valued customer. Others say they finally cancelled only after slow replies about surprise charges.
Chat agents respond around the clock. Phone-based tech support is a paid add-on. Overall, Trustpilot rates the customer experience 4.6 out of 5.
10. Ценообразование и стоимость
Let’s compare the listed prices side by side.
| Listing | Namecheap | Виртуальный щит |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest listing | Личная электронная почта: 0,99 долл. США/мес. | Basic: $9.58/mo |
| Mid listing | VPS Hosting: $3.78/mo | Plus: $13.75/mo |
| Top listing | Dedicated Servers: $29.88/mo | Ultimate: $20.41/mo |
| Другой | Domain: $10.98/yr, Contest Win: $10,000 | ❌ |
VPN от Namecheap: Namecheap’s listings cover domains, email, and hosting. FastVPN is billed on its own, as the price check above shows. Watch the jump from the intro month to the regular rate.
Виртуальный щит: Virtual Shield costs a lot more money than FastVPN. That premium buys antivirus and identity tools. Contracts are paid upfront, so treat each renewal date as monthly maintenance on your calendar.
Различные сценарии

| A big household | Namecheap VPN | Неограниченное количество подключений |
| Больше мест расположения серверов | Namecheap VPN | 50+ locations vs 12 countries |
| Round-the-clock help | Виртуальный щит | Круглосуточный онлайн-чат |
| Анонимная оплата | Namecheap VPN | Accepts Bitcoin |
💰 Ваш бюджет
If your sole purpose is cheap privacy on café Wi-Fi, FastVPN is enough. Virtual Shield only pays off if you’ll use its antivirus and identity tools.
🔌 Ваши устройства
Families with many gadgets save with FastVPN’s unlimited plan. A single user with three devices fits Virtual Shield’s basic tier.
🛡️ Ваши потребности в безопасности
Want one app for VPN, malware, and identity alerts? Virtual Shield covers all three, while FastVPN only handles the tunnel.
🎓 Ваш уровень опыта
Both apps connect in one click, so beginners do fine. For light VPN usage, FastVPN’s app bugs are the bigger risk.
🆓 Бесплатные пробные версии и демо-версии
Neither tool has a free plan. Use each 30-day window to test on your own internet connection.
🛟 Варианты поддержки
Customer support is an important factor if you’re not technical. Virtual Shield’s chat leaves many a satisfied customer. Namecheap’s agents know domains better than VPNs.

🏆 WINNER: VIRTUAL SHIELD
Virtual Shield wins 6 out of 9 categories.
Лучше всего подходит для: Bundled security, identity alerts, beginners who want live help
Virtual Shield is a security suite that happens to include a VPN. Its antivirus, dark web alerts, and live chat give you more than a private tunnel.
FastVPN is a cheap VPN for basic tasks across many devices. FastVPN works fine for light browsing, and unlimited connections are its best trait. Its US base, buggy apps, and logging reports hold it back.
If you need a good VPN for a dozen gadgets on a budget, pick Namecheap. In our not so humble opinion, Virtual Shield offers better security and privacy.
