Belangrijkste voordelen van PrivadoVPN
Here’s where PrivadoVPN earns its place:
- A Free Plan That Streams: Free users get 10GB every 30 days. PrivadoVPN’s free version still reaches US Netflix. It often appears on lists of the best free VPNs.
- Zwitserse jurisdictie: The company says it can’t give police browsing data. Its zero-log policy means it never stored any.
- Trusted Protocols: You get industry-standard AES-256 encryption. WireGuard and OpenVPN are proven VPN protocols.
- 10 Devices on Paid Plans: One account covers a busy household. That’s more than many VPN providers allow.
- Unlimited Data When You Pay: Paid accounts drop the data cap entirely. You also unlock the full server list.
- New Protection Tools: PhantomMode, new in 2026, keeps system-level privacy during brief disconnects. Privado Sentry adds optional antivirus.

Functievergelijking

| Network Size | ~330 servers, 46–49 countries | 70+ regional locations |
| Het beste voor | Free use, budget privacy | Streaming in meerdere regio's |
1. Streaming
PrivadoVPN: PrivadoVPN unblocks US Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and Amazon Prime Video. Local servers stream in Ultra HD without buffering.
It can’t reach Netflix libraries in Australië, Canada, or Japan. Disney Plus fails too, and BBC iPlayer works on some servers only. Still, its streaming capabilities are strong for the price.
SafeShell VPN: SafeShell tunes its servers for streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, and YouTube. App Mode is the real draw.
You can watch from multiple regions simultaneously without switching servers. Trustpilot reviewers praise its streaming performance.
⚠️ Waarschuwing: Streaming platforms update their VPN blocks often. A server that works today may fail next week.
2. App Mode vs Split Tunneling
PrivadoVPN: PrivadoVPN calls its split tunneling tool SmartRoute. It works in the Windows app and the Android app.
You choose whose web traffic skips the VPN tunnel. There’s no split tunneling on iOS or macOS.
SafeShell VPN: SafeShell’s exclusive App Mode takes per-app routing to a new level. You customize the country for each app.
For example, Netflix can use a US VPN server while Facebook stays local. It’s a personalized connection experience that basic split tunneling can’t copy. Reviewers often praise App Mode for giving each app its own IP address.
💡 Pro-tip: Use App Mode when apps need multiple locations. Switch to Global Mode when one location covers everything.
3. Servernetwerk
PrivadoVPN: PrivadoVPN’s server network has about 330 servers. Reviews place them in 46 to 49 countries.
The average provider runs around 1,600 servers. NordVPN and Surfshark run more extensive server networks, plus independent audits.
SafeShell VPN: SafeShell lists over 70 regional server locations. It also advertises 100+ locations worldwide without blocks.
The company says server links reach up to 2 Gbps. Coverage is thinner in Africa and South America.
⚠️ Waarschuwing: A small server network gives you fewer backups when a server gets blocked. Check your server locations before buying.
4. Snelheid & Prestaties
PrivadoVPN: On WireGuard, PrivadoVPN hit 830–880 Mbps in one third-party test. Local servers lost only 8–15% of speed, and distant ones 10–25%.
Other tests were harsher. One found a 48% average speed loss and 83% higher latency. Another measured a 71.6% drop in download speeds and 58.6% in upload speeds.
The free version matched paid speeds, sometimes beating them. Connection times can be slow on some platforms.
SafeShell VPN: SafeShell markets fast secure access with no speed limits. Independent benchmarks are still scarce.
Our writer’s fastest download speed appears in the team notes above. Trustpilot reviews often mention a high-speed connection for streaming.
5. Encryption & Privacy
PrivadoVPN: PrivadoVPN uses AES-256 encryption and multiple security protocols. You get WireGuard, plus OpenVPN and IKEv2. Servers use disk encryption but aren’t RAM-only.
Its strict no logs policy covers browsing history, traffic, IP addresses, and DNS queries. It does collect emails and device identifiers, but not tied to activity.
There’s no audit, transparency report, or warrant canary. The policy also says some data may be stored indefinitely.
SafeShell VPN: SafeShell uses its own ShellGuard protocol to encrypt your data. QUIC technology disguises VPN traffic to bypass strict censorship.
Encryption shields you from hackers and surveillance. A zero-logs policy covers your online activities. IPv6 support keeps your IPs hidden on modern networks. Like PrivadoVPN, it lacks a published audit.
⚠️ Waarschuwing: A private VPN protocol like ShellGuard is harder for outsiders to inspect. Open protocols like WireGuard have years of public review.
6. Leak Protection & Kill Switch
PrivadoVPN: PrivadoVPN’s kill switch feature cuts your internet when the VPN connection drops. That keeps your real IP address hidden.
The Android app has it, but the iOS app doesn’t. iPhone users risk exposing their originating IP address during drops.
SafeShell VPN: SafeShell builds in DNS leak protection. Your DNS requests stay inside the tunnel, so your ISP can’t read them.
Its feature pages don’t spotlight a VPN kill switch. Check the settings menu before you rely on one.
💡 Pro-tip: Run a DNS leak test right after setup on either app. DNS leaks undo the point of any VPN.
7. Gaming
PrivadoVPN: PrivadoVPN has no gaming mode. Nearby WireGuard VPN servers handle casual gaming. Latency climbs on distant servers, though.
SafeShell VPN: SafeShell’s Game Mode picks smarter routes to game servers. It aims for low latency and faster responses. The same team built GearUp Booster, a lag-reduction tool for gamers.
8. Devices & Simultaneous Connections
PrivadoVPN: PrivadoVPN’s native apps cover Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Fire TV, and Android TV. Paid plans allow 10 simultaneous connections, while free users get one.
Recent interface improvements made the apps easy to navigate. The design matches across desktop and mobile apps. Still, there’s no map view, and the Windows window can’t be resized.
SafeShell VPN: SafeShell offers multi device support across iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS. It’s also compatible with Apple TV, iPaden Apple Vision Pro.
Create one account and sign in on each device. Trustpilot reviews call the apps on mobile devices user friendly.
Trustpilot rates SafeShell 4.6/5, while the App Store sits at 3.9/5. Most reviewers seem happy with its speed and security.
9. Ad Blocking & Malware Protection
PrivadoVPN: PrivadoVPN has no ad blocker, dedicated IP, or multi-hop option. Instead, Privado Sentry is an optional real-time antivirus add-on.
It scans files in the cloud and quarantines threats. That adds malware protection and broader online security beyond the tunnel.
SafeShell VPN: SafeNet AdBlock comes built in. It strips ads and trackers from websites and videos.
Blocking shady ad networks also helps keep malicious websites from loading junk scripts.
10. Bonus Tools
PrivadoVPN: Paid plans include a SOCKS5 proxy. It masks your IP in torrent apps with less overhead than the full VPN.
SafeShell VPN: SafeShell’s subtitle translation covers over 30 languages. Watch a Korean drama on any channel with English subtitles. It’s a fun way to discover shows abroad, and few VPN companies offer it.
11. Prijsbepaling en kosten
Laten we de plannen eens naast elkaar vergelijken.
| Plan | PrivadoVPN | SafeShell VPN |
|---|---|---|
| Vrij | 10GB every 30 days | ❌ (3-day trial) |
| Kortste plan | 1 Month Plan: $10.99/month | 1 Week: $5.99/month |
| Middle Plan | 12 Month Unlimited VPN+ 3 free: $1.33/month | 3 Months: $24.99/month |
| Langste plan | 24 Month Unlimited VPN+ 3 free: $1.11/month | 1 Year: $59.99/month |
| Terugbetalingsperiode | 30 dagen | 7 dagen |
PrivadoVPN: PrivadoVPN is cheaper on every listed plan. The 24-month plan is the lowest-cost way into either VPN. The free service costs nothing at all.
SafeShell VPN: SafeShell costs more, and its refund window is shorter. You’re paying for App Mode, Game Mode, and subtitle translation. Use the free trial period to test before you pay.
