Belangrijkste voordelen van AdGuard VPN
Dit is waarom AdGuard VPN het overwegen waard is:
- Ad Blocking That Works Together: Run the VPN in integrated mode with the AdGuard ad blocker. Both tools work at the same time.
- Ad-Blocking DNS: You can choose DNS servers that block ads and trackers. That keeps pages cleaner and faster.
- Strong Legal Base: AdGuard is based in Cyprus, outside the 5/9/14 Eyes Alliances. It also complies with GDPR.
- Strikt beleid: geen logbestanden. It doesn’t log IP addresses, browsing history, or connection timestamps. It doesn’t share user data with third parties.
- Kill Switch and Split Tunneling: The kill switch stops leaks if your VPN connection drops. Split tunneling picks which apps or certain websites skip the VPN tunnel.
- Hard-to-Spot Traffic: Its proprietary protocol makes VPN traffic look like regular HTTPS. That helps on strict networks.

1. Ad & Tracker Blocking
AdGuard VPN: This comes from an ad-blocking company, and it shows. Turn on integrated mode with the AdGuard ad blocker, and both tools run at once. That’s the cleanest way to see AdGuard VPN block ads across apps and browsers.
Virtueel schild: It blocks ads and adware through special filtering servers. It works well, but blocking ads is a side feature here, not the main event.
2. DNS Filtering & Web Protection
AdGuard VPN: You can pick DNS servers that filter ads, trackers, and malware. The AdGuard DNS server can also run on your router to cover your home.
Virtueel schild: Its Internet Security layer blocks harmful websites before they load. The focus is stopping malware, not just hiding banners.
3. VPN Protocol & Encryption
AdGuard VPN: The AdGuard VPN protocol is proprietary and uses AES-256 encryption. It masks your VPN connection as normal HTTPS traffic to get past censorship. There’s no OpenVPN or WireGuard option, though, which raises transparency concerns.
Virtueel schild: It runs on OpenVPN, a well-known open standard. OpenVPN (UDP) is the pick for speed. After a successful connection, the kill switch blocks traffic if the link drops.
⚠️ Waarschuwing: AdGuard’s protocol hasn’t been independently audited, so its security measures rest on trust. Does AdGuard VPN work in China? Not reliably, according to several reviews.
4. Antivirus & Ransomware Protection
AdGuard VPN: There’s no antivirus here. You’d need separate software to scan files on your Windows PC or phone.
Virtueel schild: It includes antivirus that checks offline files and applications for threats. That’s a real edge if you don’t already pay for antivirus.
Its Virus Defense layer adds real-time protection against malware hiding in downloads.
Ransomware Protection rounds out the package by helping stop attacks that lock your files.
5. Bescherming tegen identiteitsdiefstal
AdGuard VPN: AdGuard doesn’t monitor your identity. Its focus stays on online privacy and ad blocking.
Virtueel schild: It scans the dark web for your personal details. If your info leaks, you get real-time alerts and help to fix it.
Personal Identity Monitoring keeps watching your details over time, not just once.
6. Privacy, Logs & Data Exposure
AdGuard VPN: It follows a strict no logs policy. It collects only minimal data to fix technical issues. AdGuard Temp Mail adds a throwaway inbox for sign-ups you don’t trust.
Virtueel schild: It keeps no activity logs, so browsing history and IP addresses aren’t saved. Still, it’s based in the US. Reviewers also flag thin details on its ownership and bedrijf adres.
Its Data Removal tool helps pull your private data off exposed sources. That adds an extra layer of protection.
7. Servers, Speed & Streaming
AdGuard VPN: You get 65+ locations in 53 countries, and some reviews count 800+ servers. Reviewers who tested AdGuard VPN saw paid speeds average about 58.73 Mbps. Nearby servers dropped roughly 20%. Distant servers are rougher. Some users saw drops from 65 Mbps to about 10 Mbps.
AdGuard VPN’s performance is fine for browsing but weak for data intensive tasks. It unblocks Netflix content, Disney+, and BBC iPlayer, but struggles with Amazon Prime and Peacock. Results vary across streaming platforms, and some users report buffering and connection drops.
Virtueel schild: It runs about 20 servers in 12 countries, though some reviews count 11. Independent speed tests rate it above average for such a small network. US server speeds can dip below 50 Mbps, despite its claims of high speed servers. It reaches major platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime.
💡 Pro-tip: Pick a server close to your real location. Shorter distances keep connection speeds and upload speed higher for video calls and online gaming.
8. Apps, Devices & Browser Extensions
AdGuard VPN: AdGuard VPN’s apps include desktop apps and mobile apps, plus Android TV. Browser extensions cover Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Beginners can set up the Windows version fast. You can use AdGuard VPN on up to 10 mobile devices and computers.
Virtueel schild: The app is simple and intuitive, but the macOS version feels basic. Your account’s simultaneous connections depend on the plan. Basic allows three devices, and the family plan allows 15. Some marketing mentions unlimited devices, so check your plan’s limits.
9. Klantenservice
AdGuard VPN: There’s no live 24/7 support. You reach the support team through a ticketing system, and replies can take time.
Virtueel schild: Live chat runs 24/7, and agents respond fast. Trustpilot reviews often name staff like Amanda, Pearl, Tom, and Olivia as super helpful. Many reviews come from a satisfied customer whose issue was fixed quickly. Overall, the customer experience gets high marks. Keep your account ID handy when you chat.
⚠️ Waarschuwing: Not every valued customer gets a smooth exit. Some Trustpilot reviewers say they finally cancelled only after several emails. Others report unexpected charges and slow refunds.
10. Prijsbepaling en kosten
Laten we de plannen eens naast elkaar vergelijken.
| Plan | AdGuard VPN | Virtueel schild |
|---|---|---|
| Gratis niveau | ✅ 3 GB/maand | ❌ |
| Niveau 1 | 1 Month: $11.99/month | Basic: $9.58/mo |
| Niveau 2 | 1 Year: $3.99/month | Plus: $13.75/mo |
| Niveau 3 | 2 Years: $2.40/month | Ultimate: $20.41/mo |
| Terugbetalingsperiode | 30 days (yearly and 2-year) | 30 dagen |
| Betaalopties | Cards, PayPal, crypto | Cards, PayPal |
AdGuard VPN: This is the budget pick, especially on the 2-year plan. It earns extra points for crypto payments and a real free plan. The monthly plan is pricey and has no refund window.
Virtueel schild: It costs a lot more money, and you pay the whole contract upfront. Add-ons can turn it into a pricey monthly maintenance bill. If your sole purpose is hiding your IP address, that premium is hard to justify.

🏆 WINNER: VIRTUAL SHIELD
Virtual Shield wins 5 out of 9 categories.
Het meest geschikt voor: All-around protection, identity theft worries, beginners who want live help
AdGuard VPN and Virtual Shield solve different problems. AdGuard VPN is a light privacy tool for people who already like AdGuard products. Virtual Shield is a full security bundle built around a VPN.
AdGuard VPN is excellent for cheap ad blocking, a free plan, and a stronger legal base. Its weak spots are slow far-away servers and no live support. If you need fast speeds above all, neither is the best VPN for you.
Virtual Shield costs more and has a tiny network. But antivirus, identity alerts, and 24/7 help make it the better pick for most beginners. In our not so humble opinion, that’s worth paying for if you’ll use those extras.
