- Prijzen: AdGuard VPN starts at $2.40/month on its 2-year plan. StrongVPN starts at $3.97/month on its annual plan.
- Het meest geschikt voor: AdGuard VPN for ad blocking on a budget. StrongVPN for streaming, many devices, and live help.

The cheaper VPN in this matchup is not the one we recommend.
AdGuard VPN costs less on long plans and even has a free version.
StrongVPN costs a bit more and has no free plan at all.
Yet StrongVPN wins more of the categories that matter every day.
Speed, protocols, streaming, and support all lean its way.
AdGuard still wins for one type of user, and we’ll show you who.

Wat is AdGuard VPN?
AdGuard VPN is een VPN-service van AdGuard Software Limited.
The same company makes the AdGuard ad blocker and AdGuard DNS.
It encrypts your traffic and hides your IP address behind a remote server.
That keeps your real location private on public Wi Fi networks.
AdGuard puts privacy and ad blocking under one AdGuard account.
The company is based in Cyprus, outside the 5/9/14 Eyes alliances.
It’s built for online privacy as much as blocking ads.

Belangrijkste voordelen van AdGuard VPN
Here’s what makes AdGuard VPN worth a look:
- Ingebouwde advertentieblokkering: The VPN pairs with AdGuard DNS to block ads and trackers. You can also run it in integrated mode with the AdGuard ad blocker.
- Gratis abonnement: You get 3 GB of data each month for free. It’s a risk free way to try the AdGuard VPN app.
- Cyprus Headquarters: Cyprus sits outside the 5/9/14 Eyes alliances. The company also follows GDPR rules.
- 10 gelijktijdige verbindingen: One paid plan covers up to 10 devices. That handles laptops, mobile devices, and an Android TV box.
- Censorship-Resistant Protocol: The protocol disguises VPN traffic as regular HTTPS. That helps on networks that block VPNs.
- Kill Switch and Split Tunneling: The kill switch stops leaks if the VPN connection drops. Split tunneling lets you pick which apps skip the VPN.

Belangrijkste voordelen van StrongVPN
Dit is waarom StrongVPN het overwegen waard is:
- 12 gelijktijdige verbindingen: Cover phones, laptops, and an Amazon Fire TV on one plan. That’s two more devices than AdGuard VPN allows.
- Modern VPN Protocols: Choose WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2, SSTP, or L2TP. You switch between them in the settings menu.
- Alleen fysieke servers: No virtual server locations are used. P2P traffic is allowed on all of StrongVPN’s servers.
- StrongDNS Included: This SmartDNS service changes your virtual location without cutting speed. It also works on devices without VPN apps.
- 250 GB gratis cloudopslag: Every plan bundles SugarSync storage at no extra cost. AdGuard VPN has nothing like it.
- Real-Time Support: Reach the support team by live chat, phone, or email. That beats waiting on a ticket.

Functievergelijking
Here’s how AdGuard VPN and StrongVPN compare across ten key areas. Each section shows how both handle the same job.

| Startprijs | $2,40/maand | $3,97/maand |
| Gratis plan | ✅ 3 GB/maand | ❌ |

| Built-in Ad Blocking | ✅ | ❌ |
| Gelijktijdige verbindingen | 10 | 12 |
| Browser-extensies | ✅ | ❌ |
| Live chatondersteuning | ❌ | ✅ |
| Het beste voor | Ad blocking on a budget | Streaming and many devices |
1. Servernetwerk
AdGuard VPN: AdGuard VPN lists 65+ locations across 53 countries. Some sources put the total near 800 servers. That’s broad country reach for a small server network.
StrongVPN: StrongVPN runs 950+ physical servers in 30 countries. A German server is really in Germany, with no virtual tricks. NordVPN has more servers, but every StrongVPN location is real.
💡 Pro-tip: Connect to the closest server for the best connection speeds on either VPN.
2. VPN-protocollen
AdGuard VPN: AdGuard VPN uses only a proprietary protocol. The AdGuard VPN protocol disguises the VPN tunnel as normal HTTPS web traffic. That helps on strict networks, but nobody has independently audited it.
StrongVPN: StrongVPN supports WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2, SSTP, and L2TP. WireGuard is fast, and OpenVPN has years of public review. You pick your VPN protocol in a few taps.
⚠️ Waarschuwing: AdGuard VPN does not support OpenVPN or WireGuard. If you want open, well-reviewed protocols, StrongVPN is the safer pick.
3. Snelheid & Prestaties
AdGuard VPN: AdGuard VPN’s performance holds up on nearby servers, with drops around 20%. One test of the paid tier averaged 58.73 Mbps. Some users saw a distant US server drop speeds to 10 Mbps from 65. Connection drops also show up in reviews.
StrongVPN: StrongVPN performs well on nearby connections. Some speed tests show only a 5-7% download loss. Others measured drops near 20%, so results vary by distance. Latency runs higher than top rivals, which hurts competitive online gaming.
💡 Pro-tip: Neither VPN is built for big downloads or data intensive tasks over long distances. For video calls and upload speeds, stay on nearby servers.
4. Streaming & Deblokkeren
AdGuard VPN: Does AdGuard VPN work with streaming platforms? Partly. It unblocks Netflix, Disney+, and BBC iPlayer. It struggles with Amazon Prime Video and Peacock, and buffering is common on some servers.
StrongVPN: StrongVPN reaches major streaming services from almost anywhere. Third-party tests note minimal buffering during playback. StrongDNS also helps smart TVs that can’t run VPN apps.
StrongVPN also pitches its apps for getting around censorship on restricted networks.
⚠️ Waarschuwing: AdGuard VPN struggles to get past China’s Great Firewall. Travelers to China should look elsewhere.
5. Ad Blocking & DNS
AdGuard VPN: This is where AdGuard shines. You can make AdGuard VPN block ads without extra software. It lets you pick DNS servers that filter ads and trackers. It also runs in integrated mode with the AdGuard ad blocker app.
AdGuard DNS also works on its own. You can set this DNS server on a router to protect every device at home.
StrongVPN: StrongVPN doesn’t filter ads. Its StrongDNS service focuses on unblocking content, not blocking ads. You’d need a separate ad blocker to match AdGuard here.
💡 Pro-tip: Can a VPN block ads by itself? Only if it filters DNS, like AdGuard does.
6. Privacy & Logging
AdGuard VPN: AdGuard VPN follows a strict no logs policy. It doesn’t log IP addresses, browsing history, or connection timestamps. It only collects minimal technical data to fix issues. AdGuard Temp Mail adds a throwaway inbox for sign-ups on certain websites.
StrongVPN: StrongVPN also has a strict no logging policy. The only personal information it collects is billing details and email addresses. It doesn’t track your online activity, and StrongVPN claims it never sells user data. But it’s based in the US, a Five Eyes member.
StrongVPN also frames this as identity protection. It hides your browsing activity from your internet provider.
⚠️ Waarschuwing: Neither provider has passed an independent audit. Both strict no logging policies rest on trust.
7. Beveiligingsfuncties
Both use AES-256, a strong encryption standard. Both services offer split tunneling, with one catch on StrongVPN.
AdGuard VPN: AdGuard VPN pairs AES-256 with a kill switch. Split tunneling sends chosen apps through your regular internet connection. These beveiliging measures cover most everyday online security risks.
StrongVPN: StrongVPN adds DNS leak protection on top of its kill switch. The Windows app and macOS app both include the kill switch. Split tunneling lives only in its Android apps, so it works on Android devices alone.
💡 Pro-tip: We strongly advise turning on the kill switch in either app. Then run leak tests to stay safe online.
8. Apps en apparaatondersteuning
AdGuard VPN: AdGuard VPN’s apps cover Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Android TV, and Linux. Browser extensions work in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. The AdGuard Assistent extension adds page-level filtering controls.
StrongVPN: StrongVPN has native apps for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire TV. Setup guides cover routers and other devices StrongVPN supports. Chrome OS users can install the Android app from the Google Play Store. There’s no browser extension, though.
✅ Goed om te weten: On a Windows laptop, both desktop apps connect in a click or two. The Windows version and mobile apps share the same simple layout on each service.
9. Customer Support & Extras
AdGuard VPN: AdGuard VPN lacks 24/7 customer support. You reach the support team by email or a ticketing system. Replies can take a while.
StrongVPN: StrongVPN offers live chat, phone, and email support. Every plan also includes 250GB of free cloud storage. That bundle adds value if you’d pay for storage anyway.
10. Prijsbepaling en kosten
Laten we de plannen eens naast elkaar vergelijken.
| Plan | AdGuard VPN | StrongVPN |
|---|---|---|
| Vrij | ✅ 3 GB/maand | ❌ |
| Maandelijks | $11.99/month (1 Month) | $11.99/month (Monthly Plan) |
| Jaarlijks | $3,99/maand (1 jaar) | $3.97/month (Annual Plan) |
| 2 jaar | $2,40/maand (2 jaar) | ❌ |
| Terugbetalingsperiode | 30 days (yearly and 2-year) | 30 dagen |
AdGuard VPN: AdGuard VPN is cheaper over time. The 2-year plan and the free tier beat anything StrongVPN offers on cost. It also accepts crypto.
StrongVPN: StrongVPN matches AdGuard on monthly and yearly prices. Paid plans on both don’t limit bandwidth usage. StrongVPN skips a free plan but adds two extra device slots and SugarSync cloud storage.
